Maple Syrup/Pioneer Days

Featuring:
• Curriculum Based Programming
• Learn about maple syrup from the roots up

• Visit our Sugar Shack with working evaporator
• Meet Bart the Beaver (puppet play)
• Sample Maple Syrup
• Engage in Pioneer activities

Attention:  Primary Teachers

It is Spring and the sap is running in The Highlands Outdoor Education Sugarbush.  We invite you and your class to join us on a curriculum based program exploring the production of maple syrup and everyday activities of a pioneer family.

This half day program starts with an interactive puppet show on ‘how to tap a tree’, featuring Bart the Beaver.  Your class will then experience the Native American, Pioneer, and Modern methods of producing maple syrup while hiking through Niagara Escarpment sugar bush.  During the tour each child will also have a chance to taste a final maple syrup product.  After the tour, the students will engage in pioneer activities such as:  laundry using an authentic wash board, tin tubs and wringer, log sawing, toy making and rope braiding.

Extend the maple syrup production experience through a hardy lumberjack lunch!  Our Lumberjack Special includes two mouth watering pancakes, two sausages, and of course maple syrup.  The Babyjack Special is one pancake and one sausage. The Lumberjack Special is $4.00 extra per person and the Babyjack special is just $2.00 extra.

Combine the ‘Maple Syrup/Pioneer Days’ program with another half day, curriculum based program from our flyer, for a fun-filled, full day of hands-on learning experience for your students.

Fee:   $9.00 per student (half day), $12.00 per student (full day – two programs)
Extra:  Lumberjacks $4.00 per person, Babyjacks $2.00 per person

Dates available: Monday, March 22nd , through to Friday, April 1st, 2010

Teachers and parents are encouraged to come on tours, free of charge.

To Book, please contact The Highlands Outdoor Education Centre to arrange your time and date.
